An 085 number for your business.
National, with no establishment requirement. Wherever you are and wherever you move, the number stays the same — and your customer calls at their normal rate.
- No regional requirement: registers on your own address, in any country
- Active within one business day
- Bringing an existing number is free
The difference is who pays for the call
085 and 088 cost your customer nothing extra. With 0800 you pay. That is the whole distinction — the rest is the same platform.

You don't change a number, so pick one that sticks
With 085 you choose from the whole range instead of from one region, so the chance of a number that is easy to pass on is greatest here.
Your address changes. Your number doesn't have to.
Your phone number is the most permanent thing your business has: it is on your invoices, in Google, on your building and in every customer's phone. A regional area code ties that fixed fact to your address — and that is exactly the least fixed thing there is.
A bigger office, a second branch, a team working from home
With an 085 nothing changes. No application, no transition period, no reprinting, no customers calling an old number. The number doesn’t know where you are, and that is exactly the point — most businesses move more often than they think.
Your customers are not all in the same province
An 010 tells someone in Maastricht that you are a Rotterdam business. Sometimes that is exactly what you want. If you work nationwide, an 085 says the only thing that is true: that you can be reached everywhere. No false proximity, no explanation needed.
You choose one, so the choice counts
The rule of thumb is short. Do you need to be found by people in one region who don’t know you yet — a dentist, a garage, an installer who depends on “nearby”? Then a regional number helps, because Google uses it as a location signal. Does your work come from all over the Netherlands, from existing customers or by referral? Then that area code earns you nothing and only limits you at your first move. In doubt, give us a call — that costs you two minutes and us a wrong order.
The number comes with the plan
A number abroad comes in two plans: a market test that forwards to one phone, and Customer Service with your whole team on the number.
Market test
€250
a year, prepaid
For businesses that want to see whether there is demand in a new country first.
Customer Service
€49
a month, or €490 a year
For teams that want to be reachable in another country like a local business.
Minutes are charged per country. The rate per minute depends on the country and on where the call is forwarded to. You get the rate for your route before you start.
About the 085 number
For your caller it is an ordinary national number: the normal rate of their plan, counted within their call bundle. There is no surcharge as with 0900. That is the difference from a service number and the reason 085 suits customer contact.
Do you need to be found by people in one region who don’t know you yet, such as a dentist, a garage or an installer? Then a local number helps, because Google uses the area code as a location signal. If your work comes from all over the Netherlands, from existing customers or by referral, a regional area code earns you nothing and an 085 number is the better choice, because it stays the same when you move.
Nothing. An 085 number is not tied to a city or region, so it moves with you to your new address without an application, a transition period or new printing. Your customers simply call the number they already know.
For your caller it is: both are national numbers they call at their normal rate. The difference is in how they are issued. You take an 085 number one at a time and it is active within one business day. An 088 number is issued by the ACM only as a block of at least 100 numbers in the name of one company, after an application of a few weeks and with a yearly supervision fee per block.
Yes, and it costs nothing. We arrange the switch with your current provider and plan the changeover on a date that suits you. It takes five business days at most and you are not unreachable for a moment. Read more about number porting.
085 numbers are national, location-independent phone numbers. They are therefore not tied to a specific city or region.
