An 0800/0900 number is a special national number. It cannot be called from abroad. If you also want to speak to foreign callers, we can arrange a national telephone number in the countries you want. An 0800 number is always free for the caller. For a 0900 number, a maximum rate of £1.10 per minute or £1.80 per call applies.

Name calling is calling with the letters on the telephone. In this way, letters in a word are “translated” into a number. For example, the number ‘2’ stands for a, b or c. Name numbers are therefore numbers that are understandable and therefore easy to remember.

In the United Kingdom we have a difference between so-called “short” and “long” 0800 and 0900 numbers. The normal or “long” phone numbers consist of 7 digits after the area code, while “short” phone numbers have only 4 digits after the area code. Short numbers are therefore easier to remember than long numbers. However, because there are only a limited number of 4-digit numbers available, Ofcom has attached additional conditions to the use of these numbers. Update: March 2019. However, these additional conditions no longer apply and requesting short numbers is now just as easy and subject to the same conditions as requesting long numbers.
